Flower Remedies 101

Flower remedies are subtle energetic medicine and are therefore a potent source of healing for sensitive people. Generally someone who identifies as an empath, intuitive or HSP will find flower remedies immensely transformative. They were invented in 1930 by Dr. Bach, a surgeon who sought alternative therapies for his patients. A symptom such as a headache is your body’s way of communicating that you need to change something. Pain is an indication that you are in a state of healing. But the underlying root of pain is emotional and psychological imbalance. Dr. Bach recognized that the emotional landscape of a person was often the seat of dis-ease. He never prescribed based on physical symptoms. Dr. Bach wanted to procure customizable remedies that balanced the emotions so that self-healing could occur.

Bach’s traditional flower remedies were created from foraged wildflowers in the English countryside. The blossoms would be placed in water and soak directly in the sun for three hours. Afterwards the flowers were removed, but the water would contain the imprint of that plant’s unique energetic essence. An equal amount of alcohol is added for preservation purposes, resulting in a mother tincture which is then diluted.

Bach discovered most of his flower remedies using a process known as sympathetic resonance. This is an intuitive ability that our ancestors had of knowing which plants are beneficial for which ailments. We may have forgotten some of this ancient knowledge, but it is accessible to everyone in the collective unconscious. You can also observe this phenomenon among animals; they know precisely what to consume when they’re ill in order to feel better.

So how do you go about finding the right flower remedy? Choose based on your current emotional state rather than your future intentions. How do you feel right now? Allow that to guide you towards the appropriate medicine.

It is not generally advisable to take more than one flower remedy at a time. Flower remedies are generally taken three times a day, three drops each under the tongue. Since their influence is subtle this keeps you in energetic resonance with the essence of the plant.

Within two days of imbibing the flower remedy you will feel it very strongly, like a healing jolt. Then the sensation fades and three weeks later the effects materialize again and you see the results. Don’t be surprised if after taking a bottle of flower remedy you are a different person (in a good way!).

I am currently taking Violet which aids in self-expression and personal liberation. I perceive it as throat and solar plexus oriented because it assists me in feeling confident enough to speak my truth and shine my light. If it is your first time taking a flower remedy you can book a consultation with a professional who will create a custom blend to support you during this phase of your journey. According to Alexis Smart, some of her most commonly prescribed flower remedies include: Star of Bethlehem for trauma and grief, Heather for emotional malnourishment and emptiness, Larch for fear of failure and Pine for self-love and worthiness.
