mind mapping

Recently I discovered a new way of thinking about content that has been a gamechanger for me and I can’t wait to share it with you! It’s called mind mapping. Have you heard of it before? I am very much a details kind of gal and with mind mapping my brain finally has a method of organizing information in a way that makes sense. Before, I would choose a topic I wanted to write about and kind of ramble on about it in a less-than succinct fashion. What can I say? I’m a little extra. I have a prominent Mercury-Jupiter aspect in my birth chart that just doesn’t know when to quit.

Now I can finally see things from a big picture, bird’s-eye point of view and it has massively shifted the way I work. It’s like writing with a roadmap- I know exactly where I’m going. It feels empowering and liberating and reads a hell of a lot more cohesively. My blog readers benefit too because my posts are structured and make sense rather than jumping nonsensically from idea to idea.

Let me run you through the process so that you can start harnessing this amazing tool for yourself. First, I research a topic that I want to write about, such as underwater basketweaving and take notes using an outline. But hey, maybe you don’t need to do any research. That’s cool, smartypants. I still recommend creating an outline anyway because this is what forms the bones of your mind map. Great! Once you have an outline, let’s start map-making. It’s super easy and you’ll love it because it will improve your writing and organizational skills.

Outline:

  1. Akashic Records
    1. Different uses
    2. What are they?
    3. Why open them?
    4. Reincarnation
    5. Guidelines
      1. types of questions
      2. ethical considerations
      3. time
      4. what info to expect
    6. How to open them

Your topic will form the center, or focal point of your mind map. And from the center you will create little tree branches for each subtopic or idea that you want to talk about. These subtopics can branch out even further to include supporting points or ideas. I recommend writing a paragraph for each subtopic. Here is an example of a mind map I created for my upcoming Akashic Records mini course…

Congrats! You’ve made a mind map and opened the door to a whole new world of creative opportunity. Get creative with this, make it your own. You can even get fancy with different colors, stickers, illustrations and more. I love mind maps because as a highly visual person, it is so satisfying to watch your ideas come alive.

There are also mind mapping apps you can use if you’re a tech queen keen on saving time. I’m part Luddite myself, but you do you! I made the mind map above using Canva. Here are some apps worth checking out:

  1. Mind Node
  2. X Mind: Mind Map
  3. Lucid chart
  4. Mind Map Maker- Mindomo
  5. Simple Mind + Mind Mapping

Mind mapping is especially fantastic for work-related pursuits such as building a sales funnel, email welcome sequence, task management, planning a product launch, and much more. However, it’s worth mentioning that you can use mind mapping for so much more than work. You can use it to plan a vacation, a move, a wedding, goal-setting, to-do lists, decision making or understanding a new topic you’re studying. The possibilities are limited only by your imagination.
