The gateway that led to my first foray into the metaphysical was actually aromatherapy. Aromatherapy has had a positive effect on my life, and my husband loves it to! We put on our essential oil diffuser every night while we are getting ready for bed. As a side note + quick tip, a diffuser is one of my favorite gifts to give and it is always very well received.
Don’t underestimate the psychological impact of scent. I have found that certain essential oil combinations can improve mood, increase energy, ameliorate anxiety or act as an aphrodisiac. Nothing calms me down quicker than the scent of lavender. A couple drops of Eucalyptus in the shower clears the lungs and revitalizes the senses. Sandalwood in the bath is luxurious and sensual. Tangerine gives me a second wind when I’m running on empty. Essential oils are a wonderful holistic health tool to incorporate into your daily routine.
I mention this because I am inevitably asked, what brand of oils do you use? I don’t claim loyalty to any particular brand, but I often use Eden’s Garden, Plant Therapy or Aura Cacia. If you have yet to delve into the exciting world of essential oils I highly recommend it. Like candles, they are adept at setting the mood. What makes them unique though is that they leave room for creativity and modification.
*Friendly reminder: Essential oils are a wonderful resource when used responsibly, but please do your research as some oils are not suitable for pets, children, pregnant women, or certain medical conditions. As with any herbal practice, exercise mindfulness. It is also worth noting that I am not an aromatherapist.
The following are some of my favorite diffuser blends that I have curated over a couple years of experimentation. I do not list the amount of drops as each individual’s tolerance to essential oils differs. However, you may assume that they are combined in equal parts of approximately 2 drops each, unless indicated with an asterisk. Asterisk= use less (about 1 drop).
