the key to success is leaving your comfort zone

Can I tell you a secret? Everything you want is on the other side of fear. And fear is just your body’s way of telling you that you’re headed in the right direction. Those butterflies fluttering around in your stomach? That’s just excitement in disguise. If you want something you’ve never had, you’ll have to do something you’ve never done. 99% of the time, this means leaving the cozy cocoon that is your comfort zone.

The Path of Least Resistance

Even though we live in modern times, our brain’s decision making process is still primitive. Most of us are going through the motions of life, doggie paddling in the shallow end of our comfort zones. A big reason for that is your brain is not hardwired to bring us success and abundance. It isn’t programmed to motivate us to work overtime. Your mind is designed to keep you alive and help you survive- that’s the ugly truth. It doesn’t care if you’re content, prosperous, or eat sunshine and sprinkles for breakfast. As far as the brain is concerned, any day that we don’t get mauled by an angry crocodile is a success.

The brain’s primary directive is to keep us alive and preserve our energy. How does it do this? The subconscious mind is programmed to take the path of least resistance. That means that your default mode is to do the thing that seems the easiest. There’s a reason you have to fight the urge to sleep in and watch tv all day instead of working! This is also the path that the subconscious mind takes to create habits. Habits are like the software running in the background of the mind, keeping us alive and preserving energy on autopilot. Is it any wonder then, that we’re reluctant to leave the comfort zone?

Shifting Out of Autopilot

Unfortunately, if you allow your life to function consistently on autopilot, doing the same things day after day, talking to the same people, reinforcing the same habits and never learning anything new, you won’t be able to up level and realize your limitless potential. So if you’re not seeing the results you’ve been looking for, consider mixing things up, trying new things, forming fresh habits and stepping outside of your comfort zone.

Are there things in your life that you’ve been doing ever since you can remember, but you don’t now why you’re doing them? Are you friends with people that don’t make you feel good and drown you in their personal drama? Are you going places and committing things that aren’t a “hell yes!”? Are you standing in the way of your dreams by upper limiting? In order to rise up to meet your higher self, in order to become her, you have to get crystal clear on where you are right now.

You Are the Captain of Your Mind

Most people are going to remain complacent in the safety of their comfort zones until they are pushed out. But if you’re reading this, it’s time to grow larger than the container you’re keeping yourself in and jump into a bigger comfort zone. Your comfort zone is your prison and you hold the key. So throw open the door and let yourself free! If you have habits that are keeping you stuck in the same place, doing the same things, spinning your wheels, that is contributing to your imprisonment. Remember that you are the captain of your mind, so direct your thoughts to where it is you want to go.

Everything that you want in life that is not yet yours is patiently waiting for you outside of your comfort zone. To live a truly fulfilling life, you have to learn to step out of it and rewrite your narrative. That means embracing fear by reframing it as excitement. That means recognizing that there is no such thing as failure, only feedback. That means surrendering to the winds of change and adapting accordingly. So buckle up, take bold action and get ready to see your life transform in miraculous ways before your very eyes.
