Why You Should Stay in Your Lane

One of the shadows I released this past eclipse season was envy. To be more specific, I fell for the comparison trap. Today I’d like to share with you how to avoid making the same mistake. Because if you’re an intuitive entrepreneur like me, you don’t have time to get caught up in all of that.

My #1 tip? Be more intentional with social media use. This cannot be understated. It’s so easy to look over and see someone else in your field, doing what you do and absolutely killing it.

There are times when this can be helpful, lighting your competitive spirit on fire and motivating you to accomplish even more. But if you’re not in the right headspace, it can sow the seeds of doubt.

You might begin having thoughts like,

“I will never be as popular as Susan, she has 51,000 followers and I only have 201… I wonder what’s wrong with me?”

or

“People never seem to respond that way to my posts, what does she have that I don’t?”

or

“If only I lived in Amsterdam, had a hairless cat, cherry red ferrari and possessed the flexibility of an Olympic gymnast I would be that successful too.”

or

“Felicia always has the most brilliant ideas, but I can never seem to think of anything.” and on and on and on.

Do these thoughts sound empowering to you? Heck no! If you’re not careful, the comparison trap can clip your wings fast. It can lead you to doubt your own abilities and create false beliefs that what you have to say isn’t worthwhile. But nothing could be further from the truth!

Focus on creating your own unique and original content

In order to succeed as an entrepreneur you have to put yourself out there. But that doesn’t mean you have to watch Susan’s crazy exploits on the daily. Far from it. I have found that I perform the best when I put my blinders on and stay in my lane. I show up every day and create consistent content.

By focusing on myself instead of comparing myself to others all the time I can feel confident that my work is original, aligned and on-brand.

You do you. The world is waiting in anticipation for your ideas and your unique voice. Someone somewhere needs to hear what you have to say. Words are wands and what we say has the power to change lives! Let that sink in for a moment.

No doubt it can be helpful to to consume the content of others, especially if it inspires your inner muse. But if you not done consciously it can lead you to feel overwhelmed, anxious and lost in the shuffle. Set boundaries for whose ideas and messages you want to imbibe, how much and how often. Our subconscious takes in everything we are exposed to. All the better to feed it uplifting messages of our own choosing. Don’t get distracted by the ether.

As an intuitive entrepreneur I have discovered that I am happiest and most productive when I stay in my lane, focusing on my own ideas and services and how to improve them. This keeps me on track to succeed, honing my own distinct voice and achieving my dreams without getting caught up in the quicksand of the comparison trap.

If you ever begin to feel the onset of self-doubt or insecurity remember we live in a Universe of abundance where there is more than enough for everyone and what is meant for you will never pass you.
